A Diamond Met A Pearl
a diamond met a pearl
with the kissing of two girls
as two necks interlocked
two jewels talked for the first time
a skirt approached a pair of pants
asked her if she would like to dance
a bellybutton ring felt
the buckle of a leather belt
coming undone
the blending of the two perfumes
graced the room like flower blooms
as the two undressed
two friends connected breast to breast
an ear discovered
the whisper of a lover
and then two soft tongue tips
tasted two new sets of lips
on and on went the seduction
on this night of introductions
and the diamond said goodbye
to the pearl
with a sigh
as the two necks came unlocked
the jewels never talked
the same way again
a trail of smoke
followed every word she spoke
with marijuana breath
she said she loved her to death
a cloud of thoughts drifted
as the listener lifted
her glass to offer cheers
to the absense of fears
they shared the same smile
and wore it for a while
unti it was the only thing
they were wearing
the closer they drew
the higher they flew
as if flying on a kite
holding on
holding tight
they caterpillared into
something friends can be open to
this sharing of passion
in such a beautiful fashion
embracing change
and butterflying away

Blue Notes
words unspoken
meanings unheard
feelings unfelt
short-termed promises turned to lies
long-termed amnesia’s broken the ties
the buzz of rolling dallas
quiets the night
in abrupt silences
while the weak-day’s erased,
& placed back-burner
plans & promises
sputtered blindly & loosely
wandering...
wondering...
if floated words
still carry weight
when sunrise
licks its’ withered edges
ready-made phrases & places
remembered & forgotten faces
lost conversations
hidden by midnight’s blue hue
this night’s now might mean
everything or nothing
depending upon
tomorrow’s misery
but aren’t we so strong
before weakness sets in
profundities, vulnerabilities
insights, spotlights, dead nights
then insecurities become false comfort,
a blanket with holes
that knows something
that knows nothing
& is always out of reach
can we feel this way again?
what keeps the feelings alive?
is it beyond this moment?
will it die & will we die with it?
resurrection’s holding ends with timelines
it’s this bliss with strings
which will bring nothing to the table
when it’s time to eat
this dying feast
this fading peace
satisfaction is fleeting
in all night meetings
of lost-in-time rhymes
& notes blown blue
time ticks by carelessly
as plans & promises
sit in waiting
baiting tomorrow’s destiny
keep dreaming
it’s a necessity
start over
it’s really ok
this night was
as good, as profound,
as open, as honest,
as what it was
as what it is
start over
really, it’s ok
this blue night
was what it was
& is what it is
& will be
what it will be
as long as we…
keep dreaming
it’s a necessity

BACKROAD
There were questions that I had
Intuitive map laid a direction to me
Misguided
On the backroad
Through hard wood of tree
Spread into fields, meadowy isolation
Brought-on will, delusion, and inclination
A deep aural hold of bottled restraint
Was the air in the countryside stretch
The kiss of a great and terrible demon's saint
Poisoning a strength in meandering fears
As Bobby and me got out to walk
Into the wildwood on a search for unholy sights
That lay just beyond dusk's fading lights
Moving forth, briskly in a biting chill
Along a path that led us to a fence we couldn't cross
In fear of a bullet shot to kill
The last faint hues of day giving way
We began the trace of our steps back
Back through the brush and limbs and weeds in our track
Back toward the car in which we'd rode
And parked on the edge of a backroad
Footsteps and cracking twigs, off in a walking distance
Storming closer in the weight of a man
Caught up our ears in the retreat we made
Surely, we were not alone in this land
To the other side, we heard still another nearing

Rant In A Bar
Dumb Bitch
bars are meant for drinking,
not texting.
In better days,
men would come here
to talk of books, and life,
and women, and sport.
Men of letters would cry,
and drink, and smoke,
and write in filthy notebooks
with curled up edges
on cocktail napkins
and matchbook covers
that became novels,
and stories, and poems.
Wisdom borne of Scotch and Bourbon,
The Brooklyn Dodgers, and
not a frilly umbrella drink in sight.
Dumb bitch
stay out of my bar.

Take This Red Flag...
it didn't matter that no one knew exactly what they were doing...
the stereo typcial, ego tistical, procedures of the day soon outweighed
any solid intention that was holding the door open between our miscommunications
they all claimed red flags were raised
the moment when we didn't follow their way
i claim to be a real rebel with a cause
whose patterns play way too far outside the lines
it seems to me I am the one who has had to learn how to sacrifice
and so what if i have some secret pleasures of my own
use them against me if you choose to justify why i am not deserving
tried to be professional. found it just got me painted in the corner of
satisfied grown up smiles content to have me pinned down
but i realize my sacrifice was always my choice
It has taken me closer to a true reality and penance of a deeper sense
and i am only human, for what it's worth if i hurt anyone in my own intentions
red flag me for going out and having a good time
red flag me for loving someone out of the purest place in my heart
and red flag me for battling with my own lusting desire
to make friends with the enemy, the off limits
to bring through something i knew to be true
whatever.
take this red flag
you think i am waving
and place it in your databank
of all the things
i've done wrong
in your eyes
take this red flag
i'm done with these
masquerades
to prove myself
to everyone
that i can be
everything
you imagined
me to be

shadowboxing
Sometimes, I feel
That I no longer
have a fight left in me
I’m less of a Balboa
and more of a Glass Joe
I want to fade
into a mass of an eclipse
and shadowbox
a bloated sun
dodge the finesse moon
while upper cutting a star cast sky
teeth spit showers of light
several stringed defeats
introspective mirror
tells no lie
I hug the night clouds
like a body pillow
and brace for a dark night
its an exercise of love
muscles ready
heart weak
at the sight of you
“down goes my heart!!
down goes my heart!!
...down goes my heart!”

Cemetery Scarecrow
On cemetery hill
in the fun house
on stilts with the old Audi
and waterbed, both cool
once, musty Mormon
basement maze full of pipes
that played a tune when
the toilet flushed
with no accompaniment
just the silent piano guardian
cackling Aunt Scarecrow
made her rounds
through the shivering corn pulling
at her nervous straw hair
and threw a wax owl at
the unwelcome visitor
“You’re just like your mother,” she cawed and cawed.
